Targa Boats Co-Founders Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at Metstrade 2025
We’re proud to celebrate a milestone for one of the brands we represent. On November 19, 2025, at Metstrade in Amsterdam, Johan and Britt-Marie Carpelan, co-founders of Targa Boats and Botnia Marin, were awarded the Boat Builder Awards Lifetime Achievement Award, one of the marine industry’s most respected distinctions. This marks only the second time the award has been presented to recipients from the Nordic countries and the first time a husband-and-wife team has been recognized.

The award honors individuals whose work has had a lasting impact on the global marine industry, combining entrepreneurship, innovation, and long-term leadership. The jury specifically noted Johan and Britt-Marie’s early innovation and lifelong contribution to boatbuilding:

“Our Lifetime Achievement hall of fame includes some illustrious individuals and, in one case, a pair of brothers. But this is the first time that we have named a husband-and-wife team. This is a long overdue recognition not only for our recipients this evening, but also for the many partners who often silently play such a significant part in the running and development of boat builders and other marine businesses.”
Founded in 1976, Botnia Marin initially produced the H-Boat sailboat and the Botnia 23 motorboat. In 1984, the company shifted focus with the launch of the Targa 25, a fast cabin cruiser that foreshadowed today’s discovery-boat segment. Its distinctive wheelhouse and flared bow helped establish a strong brand identity, positioning Targa as a recognizable and innovative name in the industry.

Today, Targa’s lineup includes eight models up to 46 feet, sold in over 20 countries across Europe, North America, and beyond. The Targa 41, which debuted in 2024, has already sold more than 50 units, and the range now includes both diesel inboard and outboard power options. Johan and Britt-Marie remain actively involved at the shipyard, guiding the next generation while supporting the company’s continued international growth.

The Carpelans’ children are also involved in the family business. Robert Carpelan, CEO, has helped lead the brand’s international expansion, while Martina Carpelan-Rasmussen, Creative Director, oversees Targa’s visual identity and brand expression.

Past recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award include influential industry figures such as Robert M. Torgerson (Princess Yachts), Robert Braithwaite (Sunseeker), Annette Roux (Bénéteau Group), and Christoph Rassy (Hallberg-Rassy), underscoring the significance of Johan and Britt-Marie’s contribution to boatbuilding.
We are proud to see Johan and Britt-Marie Carpelan receive this long-overdue recognition. Their vision, dedication, and innovation have shaped the Targa brand into what it is today, and it’s an honor to represent such a legendary company here in North America.
